Therapy for Teens

Counseling for Teen Anxiety, Stress, High-Risk Behavior, Trauma, and Life Changes

The teen years can feel like a rollercoaster—school, friends, social media, family expectations, and figuring out who you are. Sometimes it feels like too much to carry alone. Therapy gives teens a safe space to breathe, be heard, and build tools for the future.

For Teens

"Do you feel like no one really gets you?"

Do any of these sound like you?

  • Do you feel stressed all the time—like your brain won’t shut off?

  • Do you put pressure on yourself to be “perfect” at school, sports, or online?

  • Do you sometimes make choices (with friends, sex, or substances) that you’re not sure are good for you?

  • Do you feel confused about friendships, dating, or figuring out healthy boundaries?

  • Are you dealing with changes—like a breakup, moving, or family issues—that feel hard to handle?

  • Do you feel like no one really gets you?

If any of this sounds familiar, therapy is a place just for you—somewhere you can talk openly without judgment, get support, and learn skills to handle whatever life throws your way.

For Parents

“Do you notice your teen pulling away, shutting down, or acting out—and you’re not sure how to help?”

Do you notice these things in your teen?

  • Are they often anxious, irritable, or withdrawn?

  • Do you see changes in behavior—like skipping school, sneaking out, or experimenting with drugs or sex?

  • Do they seem overwhelmed by school stress, perfectionism, or pressure from peers?

  • Are relationships at home filled with conflict or distance?

  • Has a life transition (divorce, moving, loss) affected their mood or behavior?

If you’ve noticed these changes, therapy can help your teen develop healthier coping skills, improve decision-making, and rebuild connection at home.

How Teen Therapy Helps

In individual therapy for teens, I work with both the teen and caregivers (when appropriate) to:

  • Reduce anxiety and stress so they don’t feel consumed by worry

  • Build coping tools for emotions and decision-making

  • Address high-risk behaviors by teaching safer, healthier alternatives

  • Support healthy relationships with friends, dating partners, and family

  • Strengthen self-esteem so they feel confident in who they are

  • Navigate life changes with resilience and clarity

What Teens and Families Gain Over Time

  • Calmer, healthier ways to manage stress and emotions.
  • More confidence in school, friendships, and future goals.
  • Better decision-making around risky situations.
  • Improved communication between teens and parents.
  • A sense of hope and direction for the next stage of life.

Trauma Therapy for Teens (TF-CBT)

Some teens aren’t just dealing with everyday stress—they’re also carrying the weight of trauma. Whether from abuse, violence, loss, or other painful experiences, trauma can deeply affect how a teen thinks, feels, and connects with others.

That’s why I offer Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)—an evidence-based treatment proven to help teens heal from traumatic experiences.

In TF-CBT, teens learn how to:

  • Understand trauma and how it affects thoughts, feelings, and behavior

  • Manage symptoms like nightmares, flashbacks, or feeling “on edge”

  • Build coping skills for anxiety, sadness, and anger

  • Safely process and share their story at their own pace

  • Reconnect with caregivers through joint sessions, strengthening trust and support
